Case Study: Halliburton Displaces Major Competitor in Wellbore Cleanout Operation

debris extractionThree times more debris recovered than competitor in a Gulf of Mexico deepwater well

CHALLENGE – A major operator in the Gulf of Mexico needed a tool that could successfully perform a wellbore cleanout operation in their deepwater well with a total depth of over 26,000 feet. Their current tool was not able to handle the job. They looked to Halliburton for a solution.

SOLUTION – The Halliburton team reviewed the operator’s current tool and knew the PowerMag® magnets could recover greater amounts of debris at that depth than the competitor’s tool. They are designed to collect large quantities of ferrous and non-ferrous materials that have become magnetically charged during displacement, drilling or intervention runs. The magnets outperformed the competition at a ratio of more than three to one in debris recovery, removing all debris from the well and still having additional carrying capabilities.
